For this final episode of Season Ten and of 2023, we wanted to have some fun. In this episode we walked through a bunch of Troutbitten . . . terms, words, sayings, phrases . . . and talked about what all of this means. Let’s call it a Troutbitten glossary.
If you’re lucky enough to have your own group of long-time fishing friends, then I’m sure you have your own phrases too — your own idioms and ways of talking about things. It’s all a lot of fun.
Long-time listeners understand what it means when Austin says he could have caught a lot more trout — if he really wanted to. Most of you also understand what it means to play bartender for a friend, and you know how many inches a trout should be to fall under the Troutbitten classification, Whiskey.
Our lingo is part of the Troutbitten culture. Here we go . . .

For some reason it’s always been “Yahtzee!” on hook up. Great pod fellas. Look forward to all those to come in the new year.
Nice
That was a fun cast. Next year you should post a video of the feats of strength to your Youtube page.
Conquer is a new one for me. I have done this on foot to more than a few assholes determined to high hole me.
Thanks for the content!
Cheers.
Enjoyed the Podcast guys! Some fishing terms my friends and I have used throughout years of fishing. A hook up-Fish On or Bingo. A small fish-a dink. I have a Dink on the end of my line. For big fish-I have Melvin on the end of my line. A fish that gets off during the fight- A lost opportunity. My friends and I are more interested in hookups than fish brought to the net. In fact, we rarely net a fish at all unless we are taking a photo. We just reach down and remove the barbless fly and send the fish on its way. More anglers should do this instead of netting a fish. Another term I have used throughout my life is- the fishing is good but the catching is poor. Of course, a poor day of fishing is always better than a great day at the office.
Good stuff, Danny.
When we have a bad day of re-tying our rigs we like to say “We’re knitting a lot” or asking our friend if they’re knitting a sweater if they take a long time tying. If we keep hooking a lot of weeds or green “stuff” we’re “catching a lot of lettuce” today.
Great podcast and love the Sloop addition. Love the friendly banter you guys have together.
“Hey Now” was the catch phrase of Jeffrey Tambor’s character Hank on the Larry Shandling show. Howard Stern was a big fan of the show and immediately took to repeating it on his show.
Nice
I laughed at the things you all say when a fish is on. My fishin buddy alway whoops it up and yells “he’s a fighter!”, even when he has a dinky 6 incher on. For me it’s always been “come to papa!”.
My hookup phrase:
Sweet Fancy Moses!
