Last week, fishing a lake at sunrise, my buddy (local expert) was frustrated that I couldn’t see the fish. He told me to wear his yellows and take off my Costa coppers. truth! I’ve been ambering up with Costa bi-focals for decades, with Smiths and Maui Jims and Sunclouds thrown in at times. Sunclouds are noticeably less sharp, but a decent value. Smiths have the best warranty of any consumer product in the universe. Costa’s customer service has sucked during their ownership transition to Luxotica; maybe it’s better now? I’m waiting to see if Bajio (former Costas employee) produces a “reader”. But I’ll take your great advice and get me a pair of yellow readers. Thanks again! Btw, I haven’t learned that hard lesson yet about shades on my hat. Knocking wood.

Dom,
I did bite the bullet and get the costa fantail, yellow prescription glasses. I went out yesterday for a bit and it was generally overcast. However then unexpectedly there was some broken sun shine. I was surprised I was still comfortable in the yellow lenses despite the river having only some shade. I also have the copper costa fantail non-prescription as my eyes are pretty good in bright sunlight, no Rx needed. Now I’ll make sure to have them with me on every trip. Thanks Dom!

Great article Dom. I can’t fish without my polarized glasses on and that it. I depend on them 100%. Got 2 different pairs of Smith Captains choice in amber and lo light and 2 pairs of Costas amber and gray. But what I do have, that most of us that can’t see to tye knots with, are hydrophobic cheaters that stick on the glasses on the inside of the lenses. Amazon has a few different brands with different powers and they all work well. And they can be cut to fit your lens. Heat them up in a glass of hot water, apply, adjust, and let dry and your good to go. Best part is if you don’t like them or have to slightly readjust, they peel right off.

Meh. I don’t get into preaching about safety too much on Troutbitten. If so, almost every article would need its own safety section. I think the safety stuff goes without saying. Most Troutbitten readers are not beginners.

Cheers.
