Took Aiden fishing today.  No, it’s really not too cold if you dress for it.  For my youngest son, that means three pair of socks, three pants, two heavy shirts, winter coat, hat, and waterproof mittens. Sure, it takes about fifteen minutes to get dressed, but then I get to see him smile like this:

Actually, the most important part is those waders that he has on.  Yeah, my boys wet wade in the summer, but outside of the warmest season they don’t last long in cold water.  Plenty of companies make waders for kids, but not kids this young!  Aiden is four years old.  Along comes Oakiewear.

The waders that Aiden’s wearing in this picture are 4T.  They are breathable, have boots attached, and are pretty darn good waders; we bought them for our oldest son about two years ago and he has made good use of them as well.  I’ve patched two holes, but honestly, considering what I watch my boys get into while wearing these, I’m surprised that I haven’t had to patch them anymore. They are far and away the best solution I’ve found for getting my boys in the water and putting a rod in their hand.

When I was a boy, what I wanted more than anything was a place nearby that I could fish anytime I wanted.  My wife and I have made major life decisions with access to quality wild trout fishing as a strong factor; and this is why.

How can you beat that?  It was gorgeous out there today; we stayed for a couple hours, and on the walk back Aiden said, “That was fun!”  That’s really all ya need, isn’t it?  And, as a father, it doesn’t get any better than these moments.
