Introducing . . . The Riverside Video Series

The Troutbitten Riverside Video Series is something I’ve wanted to bring to the Troutbitten project for a long time. And now, almost unexpectedly, it’s here.

Riverside . . . is a place for sharing some of the latest articles from Troutbitten and streamside thoughts. It’s a casual approach in my studio, with modest production, so the time commitment is far less than what I put into each video in the Fish and Film series.

Through the years, I’ve fielded many requests for this kind of video — basically a reading of Troutbitten articles. I’ve always liked the idea, but I wanted to do a little more with it. So I’ve taken some b-roll and mixed it in with the article read, just for some background, some ambience and a setting. Also,

In these spots, I may also take the time to share updates or candid thoughts about what’s going on in the fly fishing world or my life on the water.

We’ll see where it all goes. But I’m happy to share with you the first two episodes of Riverside. Here they are . . .

Central Pennsylvania

Hi. I’m a father of two young boys, a husband, author, fly fishing guide and a musician. I fish for wild brown trout in the cool limestone waters of Central Pennsylvania year round. This is my home, and I love it. Friends. Family. And the river.

Fish and Film — Home Waters – Terrestrial Dries and Terrestrial Nymphs (VIDEO)

Fishing is a story . . . On a summer morning of fishing, I fish terrestrials in two different ways — first as a dry fly and then as a nymph.

The concepts of terrestrial fishing are largely centered around the dry fly. And I show that in the first half of this video. Target the edges and fish some of the middle stuff along the way. But the terrestrial fishing mindset — the concepts and strategies — are effectively taken over to a nymphing rig as well, often producing more and larger trout.

My friends and I don’t go fishing with our mind set on a certain tactic. We let the trout make those decisions, and we’re ready for anything. The Troutbitten Standard Mono Rig is the perfect tool for such an approach.

. . . It’s a versatile tool. It’s a hybrid system. And to maximize those options, simple adjustments are necessary. This video shows those adjustments in detail . . .

Fish and Film — One Morning For Versatility (VIDEO)

Fishing is a story . . . On a cool morning in August, I visited a favorite stretch of Class A water, with no plan but to see what the trout wanted to eat. In a few hours of fishing for wild trout, I fooled fish with nymphs, dry flies and streamers. This versatile approach is not only enjoyable, it’s often necessary. Because meeting trout on their own terms is the only way to make the most of a river. Cover water. Find feeding fish. Test theories . . . every day.

The Troutbitten Fish and Film series is here. Fishing is a story. It’s the woods and the water. It’s the trout, and the rivers that draw us streamside. And at its best, good fishing is a mystery to be solved with observation, theory and technique.

The new Fish & Film series from Troutbitten aims to tell that story.

True All-Purpose Leader — The Harvey Gold

True All-Purpose Leader — The Harvey Gold

The Harvey Gold has the heart of the Harvey Dry leader, with a little more heft in the butt section and a piece of Gold Stren for a short sighter. The system allows for the quick swap of tippet sections, each specifically built for the river conditions, making this a truly modular leader without sacrifices (almost) . . .

  1. Dominick, thank you to you and the rest of the gang for all the great content! If you cut the first 20” off the butt section of a store bought extruded leader and replaced it with 20” of 15# Maxima Chameleon would it provide the same advantages as the Harvey Leader? I think I know the answer. Go try it and see if it works. Thanks again for all you do. Love the on the water videos. Please keep it coming.a

    • Nah, wouldn’t even be close. I don’t mean to be argumentative, but the taper of the Harvey is very different than almost all store bought leaders.

      Cheers.
