** NOTE ** Video for Mono Rig Mods Appears Below.
I first wrote about the Mono Rig nearly a decade ago. And in the years since, the understanding and acceptance of tight line tactics has gained enormous momentum. Much of the education across articles, books and videos gets lumped into the header of euro nymphing. But we do so much more with a Mono Rig. To complicate things, the term is now used for micro rigs and other specialized, long leaders. I agree that any leader long enough to keep the fly line on the reel is a Mono Rig, but I’ve started referring to my best leader as the Troutbitten Standard Mono Rig, simply to clear some confusion and create distinction.
The Troutbitten Standard Mono Rig provides unique advantages for many tactics. We fish nymphs, both tight line and indicator style, streamers in many different ways, tight line dry dropper, and even pure dry flies, all with this Troutbitten Standard Mono Rig, all with the tight line advantage.
It’s a versatile tool. It’s a hybrid system. And to maximize those options, simple adjustments are necessary. This video shows those adjustments in detail.
Two popular Troutbitten articles serve as the perfect companion resources to this video. So give these a read and follow the links scattered throughout, if you really want to jump down the rabbit hole.

My friends and I don’t leave the truck with our mind set on a certain tactic. We let the trout make those decisions, and we’re ready for anything. The Troutbitten Standard Mono Rig is the perfect tool for such an approach.

All Of That?
Surely, some anglers might look at all those adjustments and be overwhelmed. But I’m not making all of these changes at once. Throughout a good long day of fishing, I might make three or four of these changes. And in a short morning, I might make just one.
But the options . . . are always there.
Fish hard, friends.

You know, in all these years I never once thought about the transition section lessening sag… I assumed it was there purely for taper for casting purposes, so I skipped it I’ve always just gone straight to a tapered sighter. So since 2016 my main rig has been 20lb to 15lb red amnesia to 12lb green amnesia or gold stren to the ring.
That has always worked really nicely for me, BUT….. Gonna have to mess with that now!
Knuckle dragger. . .

Just slinging split with the spin pole
